Come and Play Hits North East Lincolnshire

The world of music has opened up to more children in North East Lincolnshire due to the expansion of the Come and Play programme, which provides music making opportunities for children out of school.

The North East Lincolnshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership are running a Come and Play programme, which is designed for children aged 4-14, who have had little access to music making. The Come and Play programme is run by 4Children and funded by Youth Music, enabling children to learn about rhythm, sound, instruments and music from different cultures through vibrant workshops, whilst also developing social and communication skills.

Six clubs in the North East Lincolnshire area, including The Children’s House and out of school clubs – Cool Kids, Fairfield, Macauley, Healing Village and Waltham have been selected to take part in the national roll out of the programme. 4Children have invited the charitable organisation - Live Music Now, to create a two month musical programme for the clubs, featuring visits by professional musicians to give the children a unique chance to learn more about music.

The children will showcase their new musical skills at a grand finale performance to be staged in July 2004 in North East Lincolnshire with the visiting musicians. Parents and guests from the community will be invited to attend.

Wendy Shelbourn, Childcare Business Co-ordinator at North East Lincolnshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership said, ”The Come and Play programme gives children an opportunity to learn about music in a fun and relaxed environment and we are delighted to run the exciting programme in six clubs in our location”.
“The Come and Play programme provides a great chance for children to be involved in music in workshops held outside of the school curriculum. We are really pleased that the programme has been extended this year to involve North East Lincolnshire, reaching even more children”, said Peter Garden, Head of Programmes at 4Children.

Executive Director at Live Music Now, Yorkshire/Lincolnshire, Sarah Derbyshire said, “This is a very exciting project for Live Music Now as it is the first complete delivery of a comprehensive music programme in out of school clubs and the first time we have worked with 4Children on this far reaching programme”.
