Come and Play Backs Music Manifesto

Come and Play, the music making initiative for children in out of school clubs, showed its support today for the far reaching new music manifesto aimed at young people in the UK.

Launched by the Department for Education and Skills and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, in collaboration with Come and Play and other music organisations and art practitioners, the manifesto recognises the importance of providing music opportunities for children and young people.

Anne Longfield, Chief Executive of 4Children, which runs the Come and Play programme, said, “The music manifesto is a huge step towards making music truly accessible for children and young people. We are delighted to be involved as the manifesto reflects so many of the aims of Come and Play including close working between music partners and creating training opportunities for adults so that music provision for children is as effective as possible.”

We believe that the aims can be pushed even further with the integration of early music education to out of school centres such as children’s centres attached to schools for all ages. Also giving children more access to music by encouraging music professionals teaching in schools to also work in out of school centres and clubs. Similarly developing networks between music programmes and all childcare providers is the best way to get children involved in music throughout their life.”

Come and Play, funded by Youth Music, is working with partners across the UK to give over seven thousand children from 4 to 14 an opportunity to experience music in out of school or holiday clubs. They take part in creative and fun music workshops led by experienced musicians.
