Every Child Matters
Children and young people have told us that five outcomes are key to well-being in childhood and later life – being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well-being. The Government’s ambition is to improve these outcomes for all children and to narrow the gap in outcomes between those who do well and those who do not. The Come and Play programme, which offers children opportunities to take part in high quality music making activities, in groups and individually, can help local authorities to achieve these five outcomes, with a particular emphasis on enjoying and achieving, and making a positive contribution. ‘Come and Play is a fantastic scheme which all the children have thoroughly enjoyed. The children have come on leaps and bounds since they first started taking part in the sessions. I have noticed that the quiet children have developed confidence and now come forward full of creative ideas. The children just love it.’ Caz Horsford, playworker at Granby Island Community Centre, Plymouth. More information is available at www.everychildmatters.gov.uk - including copies of the documents, downloadable presentations and a forward look of forthcoming publications and consultations.
