About Us

Come and Play seeks to provide a kick-start for music making in out of school services. Our aims are to:

• Provide high quality music-making experiences and opportunities for children in out of school clubs and ensure clear pathways for ongoing involvement in music.
• Develop programmes that meet the needs of clubs, staff and children.
• Develop basic musical skills and confidence in playworkers, empowering them to lead music-making activities.
• Prove the value of music by researching how music affects children’s social and cognitive development. This fifth aim is new for 2005. More information

To date, Come and Play has taken place in 46 local authority areas in England, providing:

‘Come and Play is a fantastic scheme which all the children have thoroughly enjoyed. The children have come on leaps and bounds since they first started taking part in the sessions. I have noticed that the quiet children have developed confidence and now come forward full of creative ideas. The children just love it.’
- Caz Horsford, playworker at Granby Island Community Centre, Plymouth.
